The main topic of the congress will be preparations for elections to
the European Parliament scheduled for June 10-13 this year. The
gathering will be attended by more than 700 delegates, including 13
prime ministers and deputy prime ministers, several European
commissioners and party leaders.
The EPP is the association of European Christian Democratic parties
and has a majority in the European Parliament.
During the visit, Sanader is scheduled to have bilateral talks with
Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi and some other officials.
Participation in the congress by Sanader and Foreign Minister Miomir
Zuzul is part of intensified diplomatic activities by Zagreb aimed at
securing a positive opinion of the European Commission on its
application for membership of the European Union, which is expected in
the spring.
This month Zuzul is due to visit several European cities, including
Brussels, Copenhagen, Dublin, London, Munich, Vienna and The Hague, in
order to win support for Croatia's ambition to join the EU.
