SLOVENIA UNHAPPY WITH WORDING OF EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT REPORT

LJUBLJANA, Jan 23(Hina) - Slovenia is not satisfied with the wording of the latest draft report by the European Parliament on its readiness to join the European Union, which mentions "a conflict" between Ljubljana and Zagreb over the sea border, and says it will make every effort to have the wording of the final version changed, Slovene media said on Friday.
LJUBLJANA, Jan 23(Hina) - Slovenia is not satisfied with the wording of the latest draft report by the European Parliament on its readiness to join the European Union, which mentions "a conflict" between Ljubljana and Zagreb over the sea border, and says it will make every effort to have the wording of the final version changed, Slovene media said on Friday.#L# An extensive report says that Slovenia is well prepared for admission into the EU this May, but points out relations with Croatia as the country's main foreign relations problem. The draft report says that the problem of the border in the Bay of Piran falls within the authority of international law, and that the European Commission at one point indicated its readiness to help the two countries to resolve the dispute bilaterally. The Ljubljana-based daily Delo wrote in its Thursday issue that Slovenia had proposed another text emphasising that the main problem with Croatia lay in the fact that Zagreb did not agree to the initialled agreement between the then prime ministers Drnovsek and Racan and that it had "unilaterally declared" an ecological and fishing zone in the Adriatic. The Slovene proposal says that it was in the interests of all the parties, including the European Union, to find a peaceful solution. (Hina) vm sb
