SUBOTICA, Jan 30(Hina) - The first anniversary of Hrvatska rijec (Croatian Word), the only Croatian-language news weekly issued in Serbia-Montenegro, was marked in the northern city of Subotica on Friday.

Despite financial problems and the majority population's still
existing prejudice to Croatian-language media, the weekly's
publication is not in question, editor-in-chief Zvonimir Perusic
said.
The deputy speaker of Vojvodina's regional parliament, Aleksandar
Kravic, praised the quality of Hrvatska rijec and stressed that
television news programmes in Croatian should follow its example.
The first issue of Hrvatska rijec appeared on 1 February 2003. The
Subotica-based weekly was founded by the Vojvodina parliament. It is
sold throughout this northern Serbian region with a circulation of
3,000 copies.
