SUBOTICA, Jan 26(Hina) - A representative of Television Novi Sad said
on Monday the station refused to air a regular Croatian-language
programme yesterday because one of the guests in the show implicated
the TV station in ethnic-motivated incidents in Vojvodina.#L#
"What happened in the Subotica area is horrible, but TVNS is not
responsible for inter-ethnic relations," said the station's assistant
director, Dragomir Grnja.
Dusica Dulic, editor of "TV divani", the show which did not air, said
today cooperation with TVNS might be discontinued and that the
programme in Croatian might be cancelled.
"This kind of attitude by TVNS directors to a programme dedicated to
the problems, life and position of Croats in Vojvodina is no longer
acceptable," she said.
In the cancelled broadcast, Croat National Council member Tomislav
Zigmanov said, among other things, that Serbian Radio and Television,
including its Novi Sad branch, was insensitive to and ignored the
problems of Croats in Vojvodina. Speaking about the origin of recent
anti-Croat incidents in this northern Serbian province, he said that
last summer a guest in a TVNS show said that Croats did not even exist
in Vojvodina. Zigmanovic said the TV station had not distanced itself
from that statement.
"TV divani", the only programme dedicated to local Croats, has been
broadcast by TVNS twice a month since 2001. This is the third time the
station has refused to air it.
