The Croatian president visited Fericanci in eastern Croatian Osijek
Baranja County today, on the occasion of St. Vincent's Day. He
attended the traditional ceremony of blessing the vineyards and a
prayer for a good season.
Asked whether the country was drawing closer to the United States than
to Europe after the recent visit of its senior officials to
Washington, Mesic said Croatia must have good relations with both the
U.S. and Europe.
"I am confident that we can join Europe in 2007, and NATO even sooner.
That's why I believe that the visit to the United States was good
because this is how we draw closer to NATO," Mesic said.
