"Minister Rupel pointed out that the Slovene side would try not to
allow open issues to burden areas in which cooperation is good," the
Slovene ministry said.
It went on to say that the two ministers agreed on holding regular
dialogue and that the two countries' prime ministers would appoint
their experts for seeking solutions to "ecological, fishing, financial
and transport issues".
As regards the border the ministers did not propose a model for the
resolution of this issue but left it up to the premiers. There are
several options for this, including arbitration. "The Slovene side
does not avoid arbitration, but it believes that (it) should be built
on an agreement which the then premiers, (Janez) Drnovsek and (Ivica)
Racan reached in July 2001," the press release read.
According to the same source, the foreign ministers of Slovenia and
Croatia should hold regular meetings every two months and that
Slovenia supports Croatia on its road towards the European Union.
