Christmas services were held in Orthodox churches in Vukovar, Vinkovci
and elsewhere in Croatia, and a Christmas message from Serbian
Patriarch Pavle was read at all of them.
In the eastern town of Dalj, Orthodox Bishop Lukijan told the
congregation in the Church of St Dimitrius that "those who left their
ancestral homes, churches and graves in the maelstrom of war should
return to their hearths and their homes" and continue living in
Croatia. "This is a democratic country in which there is room for all
people of good will," he said.
