CROATIA'S AMBASSADOR TO SLOVENIA RESIGNS - NEWSPAPER

ZAGREB, Jan 15 (Hina) - Croatia's Ambassador to Slovenia, Celestin Sardelic, has tendered his irrevocable resignation in a letter to President Stjepan Mesic, citing the lack of official response to the unfounded assessment of his performance in media reports, the Zagreb-based Vecernji List daily reported in its Friday edition.
ZAGREB, Jan 15 (Hina) - Croatia's Ambassador to Slovenia, Celestin Sardelic, has tendered his irrevocable resignation in a letter to President Stjepan Mesic, citing the lack of official response to the unfounded assessment of his performance in media reports, the Zagreb-based Vecernji List daily reported in its Friday edition.#L# "I have been nearly shut out from normal communication with the Foreign Ministry, and have not been invited to the meeting of the two heads of diplomacy, Miomir Zuzul and Dimitrij Rupel, in Zagreb on Friday," Sardelic said in the letter. "I think the only thing left for me to do is to tender my resignation effective today, as a moral act and an expression of professional and human dignity," he wrote. Under the law, Sardelic will continue performing his duties until another person is appointed to his post. Sardelic said that he wanted to resign already on November 28 last year following parliamentary elections in Croatia, but was personally dissuaded by Mesic and the then Prime Minister Ivica Racan. Mesic's Foreign Policy Adviser, Ivica Mastruko, confirmed to Vecernji List that Mesic had received the letter from Sardelic and would respond in accordance with the law. "This means that first the Foreign Ministry will take a stand on the resignation of Ambassador Sardelic and will send its proposal to the Government. As soon as the President receives the decision of the Government and the opinion of the parliamentary Foreign Policy Committee, he will act in accordance with the Law on Appointments and Dismissals," Mastruko told the newspaper.
