PODRUTE, Jan 7 (Hina) - The European Union Monitoring Mission (EUMM) to
Croatia organised a commemoration in Podrute near the northern town of
Novi Marof on Wednesday to mark the 12th anniversary of the death of
five members of the European Community Monitoring Mission.#L#
The tragic event of 7 January 1992, when officers Jean-Loup Eychenne,
Marco Matta, Silvano Natale, Florenzo Ramacci and Enzo Venturini were
killed in a helicopter crash, was recalled by Assistant Foreign
Minister Mario Nobilo, who thanked the Monitoring Mission for its role
in the establishment of peace in this region.
EUMM head Maryse Daviet said that the monitors -- four Italians and
one Frenchman -- lost their lives in the name of European values and
principles -- peace and stability in the Balkans.
Wreaths from the Croatian government, the EUMM, Italy, France,
Varazdin County and the town of Novi Marof, were laid.
