On that occasion, the minister said that despite many successful reform moves, the Croatian judiciary was still burdened with inefficient court management, corruption and backlog cases.
She pointed out that excessively long court proceedings, an increasing number of citizens' appeals lodged with the Constitutional Court, and the lagging education of Croatian judges were other poor aspects of the national judiciary.
However, the minister was optimistic as she believed that all those problems should be solved in 2006.
In 2006, all backlog cases should be solved, the work of courts should be rationalized and proceedings reduced to a sensible time span, she said.
She also pledged to see that all backlog cases in land offices and seizure procedures be solved next year.
The minister said the positive moves in 2005 were the reduced number of pending cases, the investment in the infrastructure of courts and the fact that number of pending cases in land offices was cut by about 130,000.
