Bono and Mayor Ljubo Beslic laid a wreath at a monument erected in the southern city in memory of 21 Spanish soldiers killed in the peace mission in Bosnia.
Spain currently has 486 soldiers within the EUFOR mission in Bosnia.
The minister confirmed to Beslic that the plane which brought him to Mostar earlier today had overshot the runway of Mostar's airport. "We had minor problems. The runway was too short," a smiling Bono said in a brief talk with the mayor.
News agencies reported earlier today that the Spanish plane Hercules C-130 started landing too late, in bad weather and with poor visibility. The plane missed the runway by 100 metres and landed in a field. Bono and the military officials and reporters accompanying him escaped unharmed.
On Monday, Bono is due to visit Kosovo, where 680 Spanish peacekeepers are deployed, and on the 27th he is scheduled to visit the Spanish soldiers in Pakistan.
