In his message Cardinal Bozanic said, among other things, that in the world of today life was measured by money and that talk about children often focused on how much a child cost. He added evidence that this view was failed came from rich countries, which he said had an increasingly older population.
Cardinal Bozanic also pointed to the many and various ways in which children were abused.
He said Christmas was the holiday of man and especially of the child, and wished for the current holidays to make everyone more sensitive to children's needs.
"May the good God give our Croatian people and our homeland Croatia brave families who find a blessing in children," Cardinal Bozanic said, wishing everyone a merry Christmas and a blessed New Year 2006.
