Ambassador Vincent Degert, head of the European Commission's Delegation to Croatia, said that all public figures had to be actively involved in the challenge of EU integration and convince citizens that EU membership meant a better future.
Pierre Mirel, European Commission director for Croatia, Turkey and the information and communication policy, said Croatia had to tackle the issues of corruption, the state administration and the citizens' confidence in the legal system. He added that the Croatian government was already making steps in that direction.
Participants in the seminar were acquainted with the principles and procedure of the negotiating process, the job to be done by candidate countries, and EU assistance in preparations for the accession.
The deputy president of the Hungarian Office for European Affairs, Peter Gyoerkoes, spoke about his country's experience in the EU accession talks.
On Friday, the EC will organise a day-long seminar on different aspects of accession talks for representatives of the civil society - NGOs, media and social partners.
The seminar was also addressed by Croatia's chief negotiator Vladimir Drobnjak.
