SUBOTICA, Nov 26 (Hina) - The first Croatian reading room in Serbia was opened in the northern town of Subotica on Saturday.

The reading room contains hundreds of titles and is equipped with a modern television and audio set. It is the first institution in Serbia where Croatian youth will be able to read Croatian authors and expand their knowledge of the Croatian language and culture.

The reading room was one of the most significant projects of the Croatian community in the northern Serbian province of Vojvodina. It was opened thanks to Subotica parish priest Andrija Kopilovic, the Subotica Municipal Assembly, the Croatian Emigrants Society, the Croatian General Consulate in Subotica, and numerous donors.

The opening marked the end of fourth annual Balint Vujkov Days, which pooled linguists from Croatia, Hungary, Austria and Vojvodina. The late Vujkov was an author and the biggest collector of Croatian popular stories in Vojvodina.
