SARAJEVO, Nov 25 (Hina) - EU Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn
has called on Croatia to ensure the continuation of full cooperation with the
International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), including the
extradition of Ante Gotovina, and commended the authorities in Zagreb for
efforts invested in the strengthening of stability and cooperation in Southeast
Europe. Commenting on the process of EU enlargement in Sarajevo on
Friday, Rehn told reporters he was personally happy that the EU launched
membership talks with Croatia at the same time as it did with Turkey, stressing
that the decision to open the talks was a direct result of the cooperation
between the Croatian government and the Hague-based UN tribunal.
Croatia needs to continue cooperating and ensure the transfer of the
only remaining ICTY fugitive, Rehn said alluding to Gotovina.
The European commissioner also hailed this week's meeting of the
Croatian and Serbian prime ministers, Ivo Sanader and Vojislav Kostunica.
The meeting was an important step towards reconciliation and
strengthening of regional cooperation, Rehn said.
