The optimism index is measured on a scale from 0 (extreme pessimism) to 100 (extreme optimism). It is obtained by calculating the average value of six subindexes standing for the citizens' satisfaction with the current economic situation and quality of living, and forecasting economic developments and one's personal financial situation and quality of living.

As in previous months, the respondents were least satisfied with the general economic situation in November, with a subindex of 22.2 points, one point up from October.

The subindex measuring the citizens' satisfaction with their current quality of living was 45.8 points, one point up from October.

The respondents were more optimistic about the economic situation in the next six months, with a subindex of 50.8 points, one point up from October.

The subindex for the quality of living in the next six months was the highest - 56.1 points.

The optimism subindex for one's personal financial situation in the next six months was 53.4 points, 1.5 points up from October.

The optimism index is calculated once a month and it covers 40 respondents older than 18. The index was designed on the model of the US optimism index calculated by The TechnoMetrica Institute of Policy and Politics.

The index, which was first calculated in September 2003, was the highest in December 2003 - 50.1.

It was lowest in August this year - 38.6.
