"I wish also in this way to express my satisfaction with our recent meeting and exhaustive and open conversation we had on that occasion.
"I was pleased to find that our views on most of the issues we discussed were very close. I trust that our meeting in Berlin was only the first one in a series and that in the months and years to come we will establish a permanent working relationship and a regular exchange of views on both the development of German-Croatian relations and current problems in the world," the letter said.
Mesic also wrote to former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder to thank him for everything Germany had done for Croatia during his term in office.
"I am deeply aware of the role you played in providing support to my country on its path to the united Europe. That support was firm and consistent both when it was visible and when it was not so prominent in the public," Mesic said.
