CAVTAT, Oct 27 (Hina) - Croatian, German and Italian tourist agencies and hotel owners could jointly contribute to the prolongation of the tourist season in Croatia by stepping up advertising campaigns in Italy and Germany, the heads of the German and Italian associations of travel agencies and tour operators DRV and ASTOI, Klaus Laepple and Alberto Corti, told Croatian tourist workers who gathered in the southern coastal resort of Cavtat on Thursday for a seminar entitled "Croatia in an international tourism environment".

The two officials said that Croatia already had good tourist products, such as wellness centres and rebuilt spas in the interior of the country, which could attract German and Italian tourists in the spring and autumn months if advertised better.

What Croatia should insist on in its tourist industry is a proper ratio of quality and price, which Italian and German tourists find satisfactory for now, they said.

Speaking of advantages of Croatia as a tourist destination over other countries, they cited a feeling of safety and its closeness to Italy and Germany, and said that for these reasons Croatia could continue to expect a large number of tourist arrivals from the two countries.

The World Tourism Organisation's regional representative for Europe, Luigi Cabrini, said that this and last year's results of the Croatian tourism sector were impressive, because Croatia managed to keep five per cent of the overall tourism turnover in Southeast Europe and seventh position in Europe in terms of tourist arrivals and turnover.
