Kirin made the statement to the press in a comment on President Stjepan Mesic's statement that the security situation in Croatia has become worrying.
"The president of the state has the right to comment on the situation in the country and he is entitled to an opinion. It is a fact that robberies have become more frequent, but they are sporadic incidents rather than part of a campaign," Kirin said after signing an agreement on police cooperation with his Montenegrin counterpart.
Kirin said that most criminals involved in the robberies did not have police records and promised that police would do their best to discover the perpetrators.
"Croatia has become an El Dorado for robbers because a large number of financial institutions lack appropriate protection and in some cases the number of police officers on certain locations was not sufficient," Kirin said, adding that the ministry had prepared a set of laws to reduce the number of robberies to the lowest possible level.
