MAKARSKA, Nov 7 (Hina) - Local representatives of the Serb Orthodox Church and authorities of the coastal city of Makarska and other nearby towns on that part of the southern Croatian coast held a meeting in Makarska on Monday to discuss possibilities for allocating facilities or a space for a chapel or some other premises for religious services to Orthodox believers.

In this context, a representative of the Serb national minority, Predrag Arandjelovic, spoke about rights of this minority stemming from the Croatian Constitution.

The Orthodox dignitary from the hinterland town of Imotski, Djordje Knezevic, said that there was no Orthodox church or any appropriate facility for the Serb minority to gather in Makarska and its surroundings.

Makarska Mayor Sinisa Srzic expressed willingness to promote better cooperation with minorities, adding that this southern coastal town currently had no space to allocate for an Orthodox church, but that it would offer assistance to the Serb minority according to its possibilities.

He added that in the town there were about 250 ethnic Serbs and in the entire Makarska riviera 314.
