Members of the Interior Ministry's special purposes unit, which was established in Zagreb on 5 November 1990 and grew to become the National Guards Corps' 1st Guards Brigade "Tigrovi" in 1991, lined up at a ceremony at their base in Karlovac.
Addressing the soldiers after a review, Defence Minister Berislav Roncevic called on officers who acquired their military skills in war to help their new colleagues.
Army Commander Lieutenant General Marijan Marekovic, who spoke on behalf of the Armed Forces Chief-of-Staff, Josip Lucic, said Croatia faced the difficult challenge of building its armed forces in order to be able to defend the country, fight international terrorism and participate in international peace missions.
