ZDENCI, Oct 23 (Hina) - Prime Minister Ivo Sanader and Parliament Speaker Vladimir Seks on Sunday visited Zdenci municipality in eastern Croatia where 12 dead swans were found a few days ago, six of which proved to be positive for bird flu.

Sanader and Seks attended a session of the crisis centre for protection from bird flu.

Speaking to the press after the session, Sanader said the government would refund by the end of next week all costs of poultry euthanasia, which he added were estimated at nearly one million kuna.

He commended the work of the crisis centre, thanking them and notably the residents of Zdenci municipality for their understanding and patience.

"We have to be very strict with the measures the crisis centre has prescribed for the prevention of this disease," Sanader said, adding the government was in contact with the European Commission all the time.

"The European Commission and our colleagues in the European Union have commended us very much for the work of our crisis centre and our cooperation has been assessed as excellent."

The PM announced daily press conferences to be held at noon at the agriculture ministry in Zagreb.

More than 7,000 poultry were killed by four pm today.

Crisis centre president Mate Brstilo said that no case of bird flu had been found among domestic poultry.

He added the measures prescribed by the crisis centre would remain in force until the results of laboratory analyses of samples sent to Great Britain were returned next week.
