ZAGREB, Oct 22 (Hina) - Authorities in Bosnia-Herzegovina have stated that no appearance of avian influenza has yet been registered in that country but the authorities are going to take additional precautionary measures after neighbouring Croatia reported that some swans died there of bird flu.

The deputy director of the Bosnian Veterinary Office, Nihad Fejzic, said on Saturday that monitoring and other activities on the ground had been stepped up. Later in the day he said that Bosnia banned the import of poultry, eggs, game and all related products from Croatia.

Veterinary services in Slovenia, another neighbours of Croatia, also decided to take additional preventive measures in accordance with European Union regulations for such situations.

More stringent measures have been in place in northeastern Slovenia along the border with Croatia.

Experts in Serbia have said that after Croatia reported bird flu, the appearance of this disease can be expected in Serbia.

"We can expect the appearance of bird flu also in our country, primarily among migratory birds," Pedrag Kon, an expert of the Belgrade Health Protection Institute was quoted by local media as saying on Saturday.

Serbian Agriculture Minister Ivana Dulic Markovic said that competent institutions in the country had taken all necessary precautionary measures and that they were cooperating with their colleagues in Croatia.

Serbian authorities already took some measures against this disease as soon as it was established that bird flu appeared in neighbouring Romania.
