ZAGREB, Oct 19(Hina) - The Hague-based International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) has not joined indictments against four Croatian journalists as has been previously announced by one of the accused, Domagoj Margetic, and a Zagreb court investigating judge.

The Trial Chamber has not yet decided on the joinder of the indictments against Josip Jovic, Stjepan Seselj, Marijan Krizic and Domagoj Margetic, ICTY spokesman Jim Landale told Hina on Wednesday.

On Monday, Zagreb County Court investigating judge Ratko Scekic presented Margetic with a prosecution motion proposing the joinder of the indictments rather than with a joined indictment as was said.

Judge Scekic told Hina on Wednesday that there had been a misunderstanding in a telephone conversation. He said he had received the document from the ICTY prosecutors to convey it to Margetic, but noted that the document was not yet legally effective although it was signed by the Trial Chamber.

In April this year the ICTY issued a joint indictment against Seselj and Margetic, director and former editor-in-chief of the Hrvatsko Slovo weekly, charging them with contempt of court for revealing the identity and portions of the testimony of a protected witness in the trial of Bosnian Croat military commander Tihomir Blaskic in 1998, in defiance of the tribunal's order not to do so.

Josip Jovic, former editor-in-chief of the Slobodna Dalmacija newspaper, and Krizic, who was later found to have been the editor-in-chief of Hrvatsko Slovo at the time relevant to the indictment, were separately indicted for the same criminal act.
