Thirty-four per cent of Europeans are against the admission of Croatia, while only 35 per cent support the admission of Turkey, according to the results of the survey the European Commission released earlier this week.
The survey was conducted before the referendums on the European Constitution in France and the Netherlands. It included citizens from the Union's 25 member countries, accession countries Bulgaria and Romania, and candidates Croatia and Turkey.
Fifty per cent of those polled support further EU enlargement. Distrust towards new members is mainly present in old member states.
