ZAGREB, Oct 14 (Hina) - The clubs of deputies of the Party of
Rights (HSP) and the Istrian Democratic Party (IDS) requested in parliament on
Friday that competent institutions probe newspaper allegations that the
previous government had tapped the telephones of religious dignitaries,
athletes and politicians. Pero Kovacevic of the HSP asked for an
urgent meeting of the parliamentary Committee on Internal Affairs and National
Security and that it take a position on what he called a new big phone tapping
scandal.
"We can't allow such speculations which can only damage Croatia in the
EU entry negotiations," he said, adding that if the allegations were true
someone must be held to account.
Deputy Speaker Luka Bebic said he would notify Prime Minister Ivo
Sanader and the Committee on Internal Affairs and National Security.
