The agreement provides for the sale of Potomac's products in a retail shop in central Tokyo as well as via a Japanese-language Internet site, Zlatko Penavic, a member of the Potomac Managing Board, said in Zagreb on Wednesday.
The agreement was signed following an exceptional success in the sale of Croata ties and scarves at this year's Expo show in Japan. Japanese and other visitors to the exhibition showed great interest in the Croata necktie as Croatia's cultural symbol, which prompted Japanese businessman Shinji Arakawa to set up a separate firm to organise the distribution of the Croatian brand on the Japanese market.
Potomac was established in 1990 by entrepreneurs Marijan Busic and Zlatko Penavic. Their first boutique was opened in Zagreb the following year. Apart from Croatia, the company today operates in Australia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, France, Germany, Ireland, Japan, Macedonia, Peru, Spain, Sweden, Turkey and the United States.
The company also announced its plan to sign agreements for the exclusive distribution of its products in Poland and the Republic of Ireland by the end of the year.
