ZAGREB, Oct 3 (Hina) - General Ante Gotovina is ready to stand trialfor war crimes committed in Croatia if the Hague tribunal transfershis case to Croatian jurisdiction, the fugitive general's lawyer saidin his commentary published in
the on-line edition of The Wall StreetJournal on Monday.
ZAGREB, Oct 3 (Hina) - General Ante Gotovina is ready to stand
trial for war crimes committed in Croatia if the Hague tribunal transfers his
case to Croatian jurisdiction, the fugitive general's lawyer said in his
commentary published in the on-line edition of The Wall Street Journal on
Monday. "There is no better way for Croatia to show its European
values than to conduct war crimes trials itself, and then take its place in the
European Union. General Gotovina is willing to accept such a trial
immediately," the lawyer Luka Misetic wrote in an article headlined "Try
Gotovina in Zagreb".
The article was published to coincide with today's meeting in
Luxembourg of the EU Task Force evaluating Croatia's cooperation with the Hague
tribunal.
