SPLIT, Sept 17 (Hina) - Josip Jovic, a journalist and former editor of Slobodna Dalmacija daily, has been served an indictment issued by the Hague-based International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), which charges him with contempt of court for the publication of transcripts from the trial of Bosnian Croat commander Tihomir Blaskic.

The indictment was served at the County Court in the southern Adriatic city of Split on Friday by investigating judge Neven Cambi, the court confirmed on Saturday. Jovic was in the company of his lawyer, Vinko Ljubicic.

The indictment was made public on 12 September, and Jovic has told the press he will not appear in The Hague on 26 September to enter a plea as requested by the tribunal.

Speaking to reporters on Friday, Jovic reiterated that he would not respond to the tribunal's summons and that he would "first resort to the Constitution and laws of the Republic of Croatia, which are on my side."

Lawyer Ljubicic said he would use all available legal means to defend his client, expressing hope that his client would not be handed over to the ICTY if the Croatian judiciary and relevant authorities were to act in accordance with the law.
