ZAGREB, Sept 30 (Hina) - The chief prosecutor of the Hague war crimes tribunal, Carla del Ponte, said on Friday after meeting Croatian President Stjepan Mesic and Prime Minister Ivo Sanader she was very disappointed that runaway general Ante Gotovina was still at large, and added that she would present her final assessment of Croatia's cooperation with the tribunal before the EU foreign ministers on October 3.

"You can't imagine how disappointed I am, Gotovina is still at large," Del Ponte said after meeting the top Croatian officials.

Positive developments have been recorded over the past few weeks and this was discussed at the meeting, she said, declining comment on her assessment of Croatia's cooperation. She added that the EU foreign ministers would be the first to hear her assessment on Monday.

"I need to deliver my opinion to the EU on Monday. My assessment is intended for them and I still have two more days," she said.

PM Ivo Sanader, visibly disappointed, said the meeting was proof of Croatia's full cooperation with the Hague tribunal and its chief prosecutor and that Croatia would continue implementing its Action Plan whatever the EU's decision on entry talks with Croatia.

He said Croatia would present its report on cooperation with the Hague tribunal at the upcoming meeting of the EU's task force for Croatia and expressed hope that reports by Croatia and Del Ponte would not be conflicting, but represent a joint assessment of efforts to solve the remaining outstanding issue in Croatia's cooperation with the tribunal.

"We hope that the task force will appreciate what we have done in implementing the Action Plan," Sanader said.

President Mesic said the meeting focused on an analysis of Croatia's cooperation with the UN tribunal and added that he, PM Sanader and their associates had established that Croatia was fully cooperating with the tribunal.

"According to all information received from Croatian services, the judicial and other authorities, we have not established the whereabouts of General Gotovina," Mesic said, adding that Croatia would continue doing its best to transfer the runaway general to The Hague.

He said the meeting also discussed the tribunal's indictments against Croatian reporters, but only briefly because the indictments were initiated by the tribunal and not the prosecutor's office.

Del Ponte cancelled her previously scheduled meeting with foreign ambassadors in Zagreb and left Croatia after the meeting.
