ZAGREB, Sept 1 (Hina) - Commenting on claims by Hague war crimes
tribunal chief prosecutor Carla Del Ponte that Croatia was still not fully
cooperating with the UN tribunal, Croatian President Stjepan Mesic said in
Zagreb on Thursday that Croatia was cooperating fully and taking all necessary
steps to meet the tribunal's conditions. "We are doing everything
that is necessary, but not because of any pressure. Much more has been done
lately because the services of other countries are cooperating with Croatia,
which was not the case before," Mesic said.
Asked if the arrest of runaway businessman Hrvoje Petrac, who was
arrested on Wednesday by the Greek police on an international warrant, would
influence the start of Croatia-EU entry talks, Mesic said that this was not
likely "because everybody focuses on Del Ponte's statement".
"But we are certainly ready for the start of the talks. Our services
will do everything in their power," Mesic said.
