ZAGREB, Sept 13 (Hina) - A two-day workshop on telemedicine in cardiology, organised by NATO, started at the National and University Library in Zagreb on Tuesday.

The workshop, entitled "Remote Cardiology Consultations Using Advanced Medical Technology", is attended by NATO officials and professors-lecturers from 18 countries, who will exchange experience regarding standard technologies in telemedicine, the introduction of robots in telecardiology and the application of 3D technology.

The organisers said that Croatia was chosen to host the workshop because of the high quality of its telemedicine and doctors.

The meeting was welcomed by Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Kolinda Grabar Kitarovic, who said that NATO membership was one of Croatia's priorities.

Health and Social Welfare Minister Neven Ljubicic said Croatia wanted to become one of NATO's centres for telemedicine. He recalled a project aimed at introducing telemedicine on Croatian islands, which so far has helped link hospitals on six islands with hospitals in mainland Croatia.

The workshop was opened by workshop moderators, a NATO colonel, Professor Ronald Poropatich, and an expert on telemedicine from the Zagreb Clinical Hospital Centre, Professor Ivica Klapan.
