Participants in the commemoration recalled the summer of 1995 when over 24,000 Bosnian Croats and Muslims were expelled from their homes by Bosnian Serb authorities and ferried from the town of Srbac on the right bank of the Sava to Davor on the left bank.
Speaking at a prayer service, the Roman Catholic Bishop of Banja Luka, Franjo Komarica, commended the people of Davor for showing solidarity and humanity. He said that during the war in Bosnia-Herzegovina, two-thirds of Croat Catholics, namely 80,000 people, left the diocese of Banja Luka, and a mere 1,500 have returned to their pre-war homes in the last ten years.
