"The office of Interpol in Greece today confirmed the receipt of the request for (Petrac's) extradition which we sent on Wednesday immediately after we were officially notified of the apprehension of Hrvoje Petrac," the spokeswoman told Hina this evening.
Petrac was on the run since the abduction of general Vladimir Zagorec's teenage son in February last year. A year later the Zagreb County Court found him to be guilty of masterminding the kidnapping and sentenced him in absence to six years in prison. His name has been repeatedly mentioned in the context of a network helping the runaway general Ante Gotovina, who was indicted for war crimes by the Hague tribunal in July 2001.
Two days ago, Petrac was nabbed in Greece in line with an international warrant for his arrest issued by Interpol.
Earlier on Friday, he was on sentenced to five months in prison by a court in the Greek port city of Igoumenitsa for the possession of a fake passport, a spokesman for the Greek Ministry of the Merchant Navy said.
