Of a total of 34 banks, 32 earned profit while two incurred losses. The banks' profit in the first six months was just slightly higher than in the same period last year, when the profit of 40 banks operating at the time amounted to 1.772 billion kuna.
Privredna Banka Zagreb earned profit amounting to 425.46 million, overtaking Zagrebacka Banka, which saw a profit of 371.8 million. Erste&Steiermaerkische Bank (ESB) was third, with 209.6 million kuna, followed by Raiffeisenbank Austria with 171.4 million, HVB Splitska Banka with 170 million, and Hypo Alpe-Adria-Bank with 126.3 million.
Pozeska Banka and Primorska Banka incurred losses amounting to 5.2 million and 736,000 kuna respectively.
The banks' assets amounted to 235.7 billion kuna, a 2.81 percent increase in relation to the end of last year.
Zagrebacka Banka had the highest assets, amounting to 59.29 billion, an increase of 3.16 percent in relation to the end of 2004. The bank's share in the overall bank assets was 25.15 percent.
The assets of Privredna Banka Zagreb rose by 3.84 percent to 42.69 billion, while the assets of Raiffeisenbank Austria amounted to 25.6 billion.
The three banks were followed by the ESB with assets amounting to 25.38 billion and HVB Splitska Banka with 22.05 billion.
