RIJEKA, Aug 25 (Hina) - Representatives of a committee set up to
prevent excessive urbanization along the Adriatic coast told reporters in
Rijeka on Thursday that the sale of land along the coast was an introduction
into a plunder of even bigger proportions than the privatisation process. Committee member Damir Urbanic said that numerous land plots were being
offered for sale under the pretext of tourism development at prices which only
foreign nationals could afford to pay.
Urbanic said this would result in the import of cheaper foreign labour,
failure to create new jobs and loss of profit.
The committee against excessive urbanization consists of members of
environmental organisations from the northern Adriatic Kvarner and Istria
regions.
