OSIJEK, Aug 19 (Hina) - The manager of the Slavonia and Baranja county television network, Damir Junusic, on Friday appealed to the Croatian Helsinki Committee for Human Rights (HHO) and the Croatian Journalists Association (HND) for protection against what he described as the extremely worrying behaviour of the county chief of police, Vladimir Faber.

Junusic said that Faber had invited representatives of local Homeland War associations to meet him this afternoon, explaining that residents of Osijek-Baranja County were being systematically misinformed

with the aim of creating an atmosphere of mistrust in police.

Junusic said that in his invitation Faber accused the county television network of misinforming the public in connection with a broadcast statement by war veteran Adonis Hodzic, who claims to have been unlawfully brought in for questioning and asked to sign a blank paper with the aim of compromising local politician Branimir Glavas.

The television network has broadcast without comment a report from the press conference at which Hodzic made the statement, as well as Faber's denial, Junusic said.

He added that Faber also exerted pressure on the television station by sending a letter and asking for the recording of Hodzic's press conference to be sent to him, which has been done.
