The party's leader, Ivan Cehok, and his deputy Djurdja Adlesic held a news conference in Zagreb on Monday criticising the Ivo Sanader cabinet for failure to react. Adlesic said that the silence of the Croatian government could only mean that in return, Slovenia would support Croatia in its bid to enter the European Union. "In this case, the price would be too high," she added.
"The government should explain that the (Slovene) draft act is contrary to international law and conventions and that is why Slovenia cannot adopt the law without Croatia's consent," Adlesic said.
Cehok said that Croatia must be "quicker, tougher and more responsible in relations with its neighbours, not in order to worsen bilateral relations but to settle outstanding issues".
If this approach yields no results regarding disagreements with Slovenia, we should go to international arbitration, Cehok said.
He added that he would ask Prime Minister Ivo Sanader to present the text of the Slovene draft act to the Croatian parliament.
