ZAGREB, Aug 19 (Hina) - The Assistant Minister of Family Affairs, War Veterans and Intergenerational Solidarity, Ivan Grujic, said on Friday that there was serious information pointing to the existence of yet another mass grave site near the eastern town of Vukovar, possibly containing more bodies than one at the Ovcara farm.

"It is quite general, yet very serious information which we received back in June. We immediately started an inquiry so that preliminary excavations could begin as of 1 September," Grujic told Hina.

He said that the location in question was one of the 24 reported mass grave sites in the Danube region and that it was being investigated.

Next month preliminary digs are planned at the 24 possible mass grave sites in the Danube region, at least one site in Western Slavonia and a dozen sites in the Banovina region of central Croatia.

About 150 mass graves and more than 1,200 individual graves, containing nearly 4,000 bodies, have been discovered in Croatia so far. Most of the bodies - 836 - were found at a Vukovar cemetery, while the largest "classic" mass grave was one at the Ovcara farm outside Vukovar which contained the bodies of 200 wounded and medical staff from the Vukovar hospital killed by Serb forces in late 1991.

According to the Department for Missing Persons, Croatia is still looking for 1,149 soldiers and civilians listed as missing during the 1991-1995 war.
