ZAGREB, Aug 4 (Hina) - The highest state delegations laid wreaths and lit candles at Zagreb's Mirogoj cemetery on Thursday on the occasion of Victory and Homeland Thanksgiving Day and the tenth anniversary of Operation Storm, which are observed on August 5.

The first to lay a wreath and light a candle in front of the Central Cross was President Stjepan Mesic.

He was followed by a parliamentary delegation headed by Speaker Vladimir Seks.

Prime Minister Ivo Sanader laid a wreath and lit a candle on the government's behalf.

He was followed by War Veterans Minister Jadranka Kosor, Defence Minister Berislav Roncevic, and Interior Minister Ivica Kirin, who did so on behalf of their ministries.

Wreaths were laid and candles lit also by Zagreb Mayor Milan Bandic and a delegation of the ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) party.

Wreaths were laid and candles lit also at the grave of the first Croatian president, Franjo Tudjman, by Sanader on the government's behalf, Kosor on behalf of the war veterans ministry, Bandic on behalf of the city of Zagreb, and by the HDZ delegation.

A Zagreb city delegation also laid a wreath and lit a candle on the grave of the unidentified victims of the 1990s Homeland War.

The HDZ delegation also laid a wreath at the Altar of the Homeland on Medvedgrad.
