ZAGREB, Aug 1 (Hina) - Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sanader has said that Croatia is proud of the Storm Operation and that one should not be upset by statements made by Serbian President Boris Tadic on this operation, adding that causes for such statements should be sought on the Serbian internal political scene.

On Sunday Tadic called on Croatian authorities to take a position on crimes committed against Serbs in the 1995 Storm operation.

Tadic's statement does not upset me personally, for me it bears resemblance to the policy of Slobodan Milosevic which in 1991 launched an aggression against Croatia in line with greater Serbian plans, Sanader told reporters on Monday.

Sanader recalled that Croatia succeeded in defending its territory during the war imposed by Serbia and Montenegro and the then Yugoslav People's Army, supported by rebel Serbs, as well as in winning the war.

We are proud of the Storm, while some others, of course, are not and cannot be, the Croatian premier said.

Describing the Storm operation as a great, magnificent and historic operation, he recalled that the result of that operation, carried out by the Croatian army and police, was the liberation of the central parts of Croatia.

Sanader added that preparations for the celebration of the tenth anniversary of the Storm, which will take place in the town of Knin later this week, were going on according to plans.

Sanader saw the reasons for Tadic's statement in the fact that recently the international community marked the tenth anniversary of the Srebrenica massacre when Serb troops had committed grave crime and genocide as well as in the still unresolved status of Kosovo.

Nevertheless, it would be much better for bilateral relations to develop without such statements, the Croatian Prime Minister said.
