ZAGREB, Aug 17 (Hina) - Croatian President Stjepan Mesic has sent a telegram of condolence to his French counterpart Jacques Chirac following a plane crash in Venezuela in which many French nationals were killed, the Office of the President said in a press release on Wednesday.

"Shocked by the news of the tragic accident in which a large of number of your citizens were killed, please accept the deepest sympathies from me and citizens of the Republic of Croatia," Mesic said in his message.

A West Caribbean Airways MD-82 aircraft, en route from Panama to Martinique, crashed in a mountainous region of west Venezuela on Tuesday after its engines failed. All 152 passengers, most of them French, and eight crew members were killed.
