ZAGREB, July 29 (Hina) - The growth rate of Croatia's export of commodities in this year's first six months reached the growth rate of imports after imports grew faster than exports in the last three months.

In this year's first six months Croatian exports grew 14.4 per cent when expressed in US dollars, or 7.8 per cent when expressed in the kuna, from the corresponding period in 2004, and the same percentages were recorded in the growth of imports, the Central Bureau of Statistics said on Friday.

In January-June 2005 Croatia exported US$4.26 billion, or 24.67 billion kuna, worth of commodities, while importing $9.1 billion or 52.6 billion kuna.

The foreign trade deficit in the said period was $4.8 billion or 27.9 billion kuna. The deficit was up 14.4 per cent when expressed in US dollars.

The export-import ratio was a low 46.9 per cent.

In June this year, Croatia exported $785 million in commodities, the second highest monthly export this year, whereas imports exceeded $1.7 billion, the highest monthly figure this year.
