Some 600 representatives of civil society and nongovernmental organisations from around the world decided that more efforts needed to be invested in building dialogue, culture of human rights and non-violence so as to make progress and move from the reaction to conflicts to the timely prevention of conflicts.
The participants decided that the process of reconstruction of trusts must be strengthen on political level and among people. Also stressed was the need for facing the past, notably by processing war crimes suspects.
The three-day conference, held in the UN headquarters in New York, was organised by the Global Partnership for the Prevention fo Armed Conflicts and the UN Department for Political Affairs.
The process in Croatia was coordinated by the Nansen dialogue centre from Osijek and the Centre for Peace Studies from Zagreb.
