Rehn said in Helsinki on Thursday that Jack Straw, the British Foreign Secretary and chairman of the ministerial council of the European Union, would on Monday, 18 July, inform the ministerial council in Brussels of a statement of the task force that held its meeting last Monday. That meeting gathered political directors of foreign ministries of countries whose representatives make up that working group.
The EU Commissioner said that the ICTY Chief Prosecutor, Carla del Ponte, is expected to brief the EU ministerial council about a new assessment of Croatia's cooperation with that Hague-based UN war crimes tribunal.
According to the European Council's decisions, Croatia can start accession talks with the EU as soon as it is established that the country is fully cooperating with the UN court.
