ZAGREB, July 16(Hina) - The poverty risk rate in Croatia in 2004 was 16.7 per cent, down 0.2 per cent from 2003 and down 1.5 per cent from 2002, according to a survey issued by the Central Bureau of Statistics.

This risk rate takes into account monetary and natural income. If the natural income is excluded, the poverty risk rate in 2004 was 18.7 per cent, down 0.1 per cent from 2003 and 3.1 per cent from 2002.

Statistically, the poverty risk threshold for a one-person household in 2004 was an annual income of 20,714 kuna, or a monthly income of 1,726 kuna, including monetary and natural income.

For a household consisting of two adults and two children, this threshold was an annual income of 43,499 kuna, which means that to cross the poverty risk threshold such a household would need a monthly income, both monetary and natural, of a minimum 3,625 kuna.

The most at-risk groups in Croatia are the elderly, particularly older persons living alone, the unemployed, the self-employed, pensioners, single parents, and families with three or more children.
