On this occasion, the marble relief 'The Virgin and Child' made by Croatian sculptor Ivan Duknovic, called Giovanni Dalmata (also known as Giovanni di Trau and Ioannes Stephani Duknovich de Tragurio), was put on display for the Croatian public for the first time.
The relief was bought in a London gallery at the price of 2.5 million kuna. The Croatian government ensured 1.9 million kuna and the local authorities of Trogir the rest for this purpose, thus preventing an US gallary from taking it.
Duknovic, born in Trogir around 1440, was a Croatian sculptor who was mainly active in Rome, in Hungary and Dalmatia. He was one of leading sculptors in Rome in the second half of the 15th century.
