PM Kosor and Economy Minister Popijac visit Kotka clothes factory

KRAPINA, March 8 (Hina) - Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor and Economy and Labour Minister Djuro Popijac on Tuesday visited the Kotka clothes factory in the northwestern town of Krapina and held talks with management and workers about difficulties in the textile industry.

Kotka, established in 1954, employes 612 people and a considerable part of its sales are exported. This is one of rare successful companies in the national textile industry.

After the tour of factory, Kosor congratulated International Women's Day and thanked everybody who succeeded in preserving jobs notably in companies where women are mainly labour force.

She recalled that the government had adopted a strategy for encouraging women's entrepreneurship.

On Tuesday, International Women's Day, some women activists lodged a request for better labour rights of women to Deputy Prime Minister Slobodan Uzelac in Zagreb.

Marking this international holiday, the opposition Social Democratic Party held a round table discussion warning that only 40 percent of women of the working age are employed in Croatia and that there is a 13-percent gap between salaries paid to men and women at the same workplace.
