Croatia's exports up, imports down in January

ZAGREB, Feb 28 (Hina) - Croatia's exports rose by 5.4 percent to HRK 4.74 billion in January this year as against January 2010, while imports dropped 0.7 percent to HRK 6.93 billion, resulting in an 11.8-percent reduction of the trade deficit to HRK 2.19 billion, the Central Bureau of Statistic reported on Monday.

The export-import coverage ratio was 68.4 percent, up nearly four percentage points from January 2010.

Expressed in euros, exports increased by 3.8 percent to EUR 640.7 million, while imports decreased by 2.2 percent to EUR 936.3 million.

The deficit was EUR 295.6 million, down 13 percent.

EU member states remained the most important trading partners for Croatia. In January, Croatia exported EUR 406.4 million to the EU market, or 0.1 percent more than in January 2010, while imports from the EU went up 7.7 percent to EUR 540.5 million.
