Number of tourists visiting Croatia goes up 3.2% in 2010

ZAGREB, Feb 21 (Hina) - The number of tourists visiting Croatia in 2010 rose by 3.2% on the year to 10.6 million, and overnight stays increased 2.6% to 56.41 million, the Central Bureau of Statistics reported on Monday.

Foreign visitors accounted for 86 % of arrivals (9.11 million) and 90.4% of overnight stays (nearly 51 million), rising 5% and 3.6% respectively in 2010 from 2009.

The number of domestic tourists in Croatia fell 5.3% to 1.49 million and their overnight stays decreased by 5.8% to 5.42 million last year.

Broken down by citizenship, Germans accounted for 22.5% of overnight stays by foreigners in Croatia in 2010. They were followed by Slovenians (11.5%). Italians made up 9.3% of overnight stays, and they were followed by Austrians (8.7%), Czechs (8.2%) and Poles (5.7%). Visitors with the Dutch passports accounted for 4.4% of overnight stays and Slovaks for 4.2%.
